To the one who thinks they've run too far...
If you watch little kids with their parents long enough, you'll notice that most of them like to run away and be chased. I remember the story my mom told me of a time when my twin and I were just little and she brought us out to the yard, I ran one way and Kenzie ran the other way. Hence my mom got a fence for our yard. Little kids love to run and be chased, just watch any group of kids playing "tag, you're it!" And if you watch a little kid run from their parents, you'll probably notice them turn around just to see if their parent is following. Their parent of course pursues them and catches them. They never run too far that their parent doesn't follow after them. Sometimes as adults we can run a little bit like children too, can't we? Surely you must know what I mean as you lower your head just a little bit thinking about how far you've run. Maybe you've run into sin and got so far into it that you couldn't find your way out so you just kept running. Maybe you've run away from God's plan for you and ended up in a bad situation caused by thinking you had a better plan. It's funny how we can think that, isn't it? Or maybe you got hurt so deeply that you ran away from any close relationships and pushed everyone away...including God. I know I've done all those things before. Let me remind you of a little story about a man named Jonah. And I say "remind you" because I'm sure you've heard the story before. The disobedient prophet who ran from God's calling and ended up in the belly of a whale for three days and three nights? Yep, that's the one. You see, God called Jonah to a task that he wasn't exactly happy about or brimming with excitement to accomplish. God called Jonah to preach His message to the people of Nineveh. A people that Jonah couldn't stand, a people that had bullied Jonah's people, and a people that were very wicked in the sight of God. So what did Jonah do instead of following God's call? He went for a boat ride. He ran. He went running from God and God's calling on his life. Can you relate? I know I can, cause I've done that too. Gone running from God thinking that I knew better, when I really didn't know anything at all. But did God let him go? Did God just let him run and stop pursuing him? Did God say, "Well, he's gone too far this time"? No...not once. God not only pursued him, but He set up a rescue plan for him via the whale express. And in the bottom of the ocean, in the stinky, dark belly of a whale, God met Jonah there with His mercy and His love and His redemption. You can never run too far that God won't pursue you and find you there. Not only that, but God picked Jonah back up and sent him on his way. He didn't count Jonah out because he'd run. In His mercy He gave Jonah chance number two. Like He always does so graciously for us. Friend, I don't know why or how or where you've run from God. I don't know what place you're at right now in the dark. Maybe you're not even sure how to make your way back to God. Let me assure you...God is already coming after you and He's right there, ready for you to fall on Him and come home. Like a patient Father, He pursues us when we run. He never, ever gives up on us. There is no place too dark or too high or too far for His love to stop reaching. Praise Him for that. Wherever your running has brought you, dear one, won't you turn around right now where you're at? Turn around and lift your head. You're going to find that He stuck with you all along. Fall on Him and come home. 10/20/2018 02:42:28 pm
